Carjacker brutally beats 72-year-old great-grandmother, steals her car, then dies in crash

Fate has a funny way of showing itself to us. If you are a spiritual believer in the Hindu concept of Karma then this story might leave you with a sense of satisfaction that even if the law is not always on our side, something greater than us is. This story, it is about how a carjacker tried to beat up an old lady and steal her car, only to die in a fatal car crash a short while after in the very same car he stole.

Texas Lady Beat up and Carjacked

The woman in question is 72 years old and her name is Shirlene Hernandez. She was driving around San Antonio, running errands and whatnot when she realized she was thirsty. She saw a Shell gas station to buy a refreshment. Little did she know that she would be attacked by a carjacker. Her attacker punched her in the face again and again and went for her keys so he could get away.

Go Fund Me

People were watching the whole ordeal from the sidelines, and three men from that crowd of witnesses stepped in to help the poor old woman, but it was too late for that. The carjacker had already bruised her face and he managed to get away from the scene of the crime, with Hernandez’s vehicle.

Shirlene had this to say to the WOAI. “I just hope that if this situation happens to anybody else, that somebody will step forward, leap forward, run forward, whatever, and help the person that it’s happening to.

What Goes Around, Comes Around

The story has caused some outrage, but it seems that karma caught up to the attacker. Shortly after the carjacking, the assailant died in a car accident. “There’s a lot of people who would say what goes around comes around karma. I did not think that; the only thing I got (was) really sad because he had died.” Hernandez said to WCAX3.

You might imagine that Shirlene would be hell-bent on revenge for the trauma of the whole ordeal, but she was not happy at all that the carjacker ended up losing their lives in the process.

“Now granted, he had hurt me, but the Lord saw fit to take him out of his misery,”
said Shirlene to reporters

What Will Shirlene Do?

Now that Shirley is without wheels, she is struggling to get around. She is 72 years old, which makes walking much more difficult than the rest of us younger folk. Even a walk to the closest shop around the corner is a lot. This also means that she is unable to get to her job and back. So, not only does she not want to be forced to quit her job, but she and her husband also rely on her work to survive. “I just don’t want to quit working. And so, I’ve got to somehow get another car, and that takes money and stuff, I’ve got to figure out what to do,. said Shirlene.

Luckily for Shirlene, she has a loving daughter who has made a go-fund-me campaign for her mother so that she may buy herself a new set of wheels.

Her mother relies on having the car so that she can get to work and back on time. It is important that her parents survive this loss of transport. So, you can imagine their excitement when their go-fund-me goal was reached three times over! Initially, the goal to reach was a mere $5,000, but those who stumbled across her story empathized greatly and many donations were made. They ended up with a whopping $25,000! This means she can definitely buy herself another car. The rest of the money could be used to help her and her husband get by a little more comfortably.

Whether or not you believe in karma, there is something universal about how this story ended. Shirlene was not maliciously angry with the carjacker, even though he painfully beat her up, yet he died. Then, she was blessed for her good nature by receiving so much more than the original fundraisers’ goal. Good things happen to good people, or so it goes.
