Former Hotel Worker Says You Should Never Eat The Continental Breakfast

If you are anything like I am, you love a good free continental breakfast when staying at a hotel. In fact, many of you probably choose your hotel based on the fact that brekkie is included. Well, we have some news that will probably break your heart. Also, it will probably have you thinking twice about that bargain breakfast. Get ready to feel a little queasy, folks!

Brandi Augustus is a 36-year-old from Tennessee. She no longer works in the service industry but felt like she really needed to inform us all about what’s really going on behind the scenes. Especially inside the kitchen. Brandi has over 15 years of experience working in hotels, both as a night auditor and the front desk. And, she’s seen some things.

So, what’s wrong with the continental breakfast?

Taking to TikTok, Brandi decided it was time to inform everyone exactly why you should skip out on the continental breakfast when staying at budget hotels. Her post has had nearly 6000 comments to date. We are sure a lot of hotels must be mad at her for spilling the beans! We will also just mention that the breakfasts in question are normally from lower-tier establishments. So, if you’re staying at The Four Seasons, you’ll be just fine. Anyway, here’s what Brandi had to say in her viral two-minute-long video. “If your hotel serves, like, a hot continental breakfast or whatever — eggs, waffles, stuff like that — don’t eat that s–t.” But, it did not stop there. Brandi went on to explain exactly how the bread is handled in these places.

“Gloves weren’t used and hands weren’t washed — and this was food that was removed from the buffet the morning prior, so who knows how many sets of hands had touched it all”

If hearing that doesn’t make you feel off, Brandi had more to say about the bread and pastries specifically. She says they “are often recycled and picked over for DAYS!” All we can say is EWWWW!

It gets worse

Brandi did not stop there, oh no. The budget hotel continental breakfast is in fact even more revolting. She advises those listening to stay away from meat products. Why? Well, she simply put it that sausage is not supposed to be gray.” Can’t argue with that. Now, if your particular hotel breakfast a waffle stand, according to Brandi, that’s where the worst is lurking. Not only are the waffle stations not always cleaned, but the batter was reused until it started to “smell like beer.”

When I was told to smell the waffle batter to check if it was still good, I just lost all hope. That completely soured my stomach, as the batter had a slight smell to it but the container was a little over half full — so instead of wasting the old batter, I was told to just mix new batter into it and the smell would go away. That smell was bacteria multiplying.”

Brandi claims that she could not inform health inspectors about the continental breakfast horror because she was afraid of losing her job. If the health inspector came, they “would never come during my shift. The wary ex-clerk added that she “felt that if I did report it outside of work, then my job would somehow know.

Brandi does also say that if you must have breakfast, order fresh and not from the buffet. “The chances of getting food poisoning seem to decrease when you can see the person cooking your food, so always opt for the omelet station.

Is the continental breakfast really that bad?

Well, looking at some of the comments on Brandi’s video, it would appear that yes, the buffet breakfast is a poor choice.

User Nova Rose agreed. “Worked at front desk for a luxury boutique hotel that charges 1300 a night. We cared about our breakfast until Covid. We all quit. I would NOT trust.” And, user TheResa-Warren Allen simply commented “SHE IS TELLING THE TRUTH…” Another apparent hotel employee called Logan said “I work front desk and I never ever wanna stay in my own hotel. I’ve seen too much.”

Well, we hope that you aren’t reading this from inside a hotel room, and, if you have a trip coming up, take heed!
