Family Rejects Huge Offer From Developers To Keep Their Land And ‘Dream Home’

Some people spend their entire lives trying to create their ‘Dream Home.’ And come sunshine or rain, they wouldn’t do anything that would jeopardize that. So it shouldn’t surprise anyone reading that a family in Sydney refused to give up on their dreams.

Despite being the victim of immense pressure, the family didn’t sell their beloved property. The property in question- a luxurious housing development. This is located near The Ponds, a suburb of Sydney, and most of the houses look similar to each other. 

The Zammit family, who are the owners of this property, are a resilient bunch, to say the least.

A Sprawling Private Estate

But what makes this property the dream home for the family is that it looks different. This home has a huge stretch of land before it. It looks like a veritable Windsor Castle with its 1.99 hectares of land. The driveway itself is 200m long. The family was offered a whopping $50 million (AUD) dollars by developers. This is extraordinary since the property was for sale in 2015, and it was valued at $858,000 to $945,000, house records on RP Data show. However, it was taken off the market and hasn’t been for sale since. The Zammit family has been adamant that they do not want to sell to developers, hence rejecting such massive offers.

51-year-old David Zammit is apparently the successful owner of a trucking company. Neighbors say he has a large shed covered with solar panels where he houses his trucks. The house also apparently has at least five bedrooms, a triple garage, as well as a DIY basketball court. Although the estate has two entrances, the Zammits have only kept the front entrance open. It has a 750-meter-long fence surrounding the estate.

This northwest property has spectacular views of the Blue Mountains and the Newnes Plateau. At the same time, it is not far from downtown. It is situated near Sydney’s Quake Hill in a suburb known as The Ponds. Needless to say, the owners have quite a large share of their backyard room. And we could hardly say no to barbecues when they take place here, could we?

Dream Home- A Castle Between Monotony

The neighbors say that the Zammits always wave back when they wave at them. They also talk about how the big open space gives them a feeling of security. The owners of this Dream Home also believe that their house looks like a castle. And despite developers coming in with big cheques, they have held on to their dream- rather than give in to money.

Taylor Bredin, the real estate agent for Ray White Quarters Hill, did state, “The fact that most people sold out years and years ago, these guys have held on. All credit to them.”

He further claimed, “Depending on how far you push the development plan, you’d be able to push anywhere from 40 to 50 properties on something like this, and when subdivided, a 300 square meter block would get a million dollars.”

Although this Dream Home does stick out like a sore thumb, the owners aren’t disturbed. The rest of the houses are all two-story grey roofs, and this house nestles between them like a castle. Goes without saying, several media houses around the area have questioned the family. They have been asked about their plans, their reticence, and their idea of a house. But as it stands, they haven’t been met with any reply whatsoever.
