Guy Grows Peppers Using Radio-Controlled Equipment in His Greenhouse

One man, in doing something that he loves, built a greenhouse and uses some pretty unconventional methods for maintaining his garden. He created a YouTube channel for those who would like to know more about his methods. Gardening has become a hobby for him, and one that he’s become addicted to expanding on.

Food for the Body, Planet (and Soul).

Chad, from Northern Canada, has always been into gardening but sometime in 2019, he began experimenting with super hot peppers in a greenhouse that he built himself. In 2020, his ingenuity was recognized as news of his greenhouse went viral. In an interview with BoredPanda, he stated, “Anyone that’s in this hobby will tell you that once you start growing them, you can’t get enough plants and you end up with way more than you intended to. I now grow peppers year-round in a grow tent in the basement. When you keep them alive instead of letting them die after one harvest, their production doubles or triples.”[1] In addition to the many varieties of peppers, he now grows beets, tomatoes, cucumbers, and garlic. What many people may not realize is how beneficial these and other plants are to the planet. Learning to garden is a great hobby for numerous reasons. It’s calming, gives back to our bodies, and gives back to the planet.

Science Specialty; R/C Equipment

Chad has incorporated more engineering into the already scientific process that is gardening. His greenhouse is impressively large, 12 by 20 feet, with big doors and windows for more ventilation. What makes his designs more amazing though, is that he controls the greenhouse using radio-controlled equipment. While many toys and games familiarize people and kids with R/C vehicles, a number of people have no idea how they work. I, being one of those people, was certainly curious about the inner workings of R/C equipment. There’s an article posted by “how stuff works” that explains, “The transmitter sends a control signal to the receiver using radio waves, which then drives a motor, causing a specific action to occur.” [3] Chad uses a radio-controlled excavator, bulldozer, and tractor to dig holes for the new plants, sow the seeds, and lay down nutrient rich soil. His goal is to use the radio-controlled machinery for every possible aspect of his gardening and greenhouse processes.

Fans Following Along.

Chad now has a YouTube channel called RC Peppers, where fans can check out new recipes, learn to cultivate their own garden and if so desired build their own greenhouse. Viewers can follow along to track the progress he’s made in the last few years. His channel has nearly 2,300 subscribers with a total of 32 videos. The first video starts his series by explaining how he got started on the process and every video that follows contains tips and tools to make building your own greenhouse seem like an easy and fun activity.
