India is a land of cultural and religious diversity. So, one can never find any form of homogeneity anywhere in the country. If one were to walk through the Northern states, their way of life would be completely different from people in the Southern states. And this would bring up certain ritualistic practices that could feel alien to someone who doesn’t live in India. Recently, a viral news report came up about a man who hasn’t put his arm down for a decade. He has been doing this in honor of the Lord Almighty. The man believes that doing this for the entire year would make his God notice him. [1]
This Indian man must be a sight even in his own city. Hailing from parts unknown, he has claimed that raising his arm has never been an issue. And when someone asked him if people noticed this unique feature anymore- he replied, “no”. Naturally, his raised arm has no sensation in it- and it apparently stays up without any effort from him. Medical experts could point certain fingers towards muscle dystrophy due to lack of use- as this man also admits that he has no strength in that arm.

Man In India Has Been Raising His Arm For 10 Years Straight
The video of the man from India did raise a lot of heckles and jokes on Reddit- as people definitely found it quite amusing. One individual commented, “The whole point of this is that he has an excuse to avoid doing anything at all.” Someone else stated, “Yet he’s always the first to volunteer.” Some users were definitely impressed with the strength of his devotion to his God- “But to even make it that long. I couldn’t keep mine up an hour, even if you paid me.” Another user responded to this stating, “Must have been really difficult at the start though.”
Incidentally, he isn’t the only person from India to raise his hand for God. Another individual, called Amar Bharati,[2] has been doing it for close to 45 years. This man had been working in a bank, but suddenly opted for a drastic change in his lifestyle. The father of three kids decided to dedicate his life to Shiva. Raising his hand would be his way of worshipping the Hindu deity. “I don’t ask for much. Why do we fight between us, why is there so much hate and enmity between us? I want all Indians to live in peace. I want the whole world to live in peace.”
