New mom and gorilla lovingly hold babies at glass for each other

Motherhood is a powerful bond. As this female gorilla proved at the Boston Zoo this month, it also crosses the boundaries between species. In this heartwarming video, a mom and gorilla hold babies together while the mother gorilla looks on lovingly at the human baby. (1)

Mom And Gorilla Hold Babies Together

Emily Austin took her five-week-old son Canyon to the zoo earlier this month. The visit was relatively normal until they reached the gorillas. Austin stood at the glass holding her son while watching the massive animals interact when a female gorilla named Kiki approached the glass wall with curiosity. She seemed to take a real interest in baby Canyon. (2)

After several minutes went by with Kiki gesturing toward and watching the baby boy. Finally, she showed why she found him so interesting: She is a mom, herself. She picked up her own nearly 7-month old son Pablo to show off. The mom and gorilla held their babies together with only the glass between them. It was a very special moment for both, especially Austin. (1)

“When I walked into the zoo that day, I never could’ve imagined that we would have had that experience,” she said. “It was so beautiful, and we walked out just over the moon.” (2)

One thing is for sure, this will not be a zoo visit that Austin will ever forget, and a story she will tell her son for many years to come!
