Couple Buys Abandoned Church From The 1790s – Transforms It Into Incredible Family Home

There is an old, abandoned church from 1792 that sits overlooking the coast in Northern England. The Church has headstones lining up the yard and has been sitting empty for the last four decades. In fact, one can assume that Tim Burton would be all set to shoot a scary movie in the scenery. However, the building has been bought by a family that has made it their home.

The Saint Nicholas Church now houses five bedrooms, two living rooms, two bathrooms, and a couple of kitchens. One can actually envision this church to be one of the most gorgeous homes that one would ever see.

This abandoned church is located at Kyloe, which is a hamlet situated on the hillside. This place lies about six miles from the Northumberland coast of England. As such, the building retains a lot of the exterior architectural features. However, the real magic lies inside. The great room situated inside consists of the dining room, the living room, and the kitchen. These rooms incorporate the nave, chancel, and vestry of the church. The home also retains the original stained glass windows, although multiple skylights have also been installed ever since it was renovated as a residential place.

An Abandoned Church Has Been Transformed Into A Beautiful House

The height of the ceiling of this church was also kept intact in order to make the space feel grandiose- however, the decor and the cozy furnishings have kept the atmosphere homely. In order to reach the library of the church house and the second floor, there are double staircases. The room has an open-timbered ceiling that pays homage to the history of the church, as well as biblical extracts that have been etched in a tin all along the edge of the great room. The main kitchen has been furnished with state-of-the-art machines- fit for a gourmet chef.

The cabinetry for the kitchen was created using pitch pine which was reclaimed from the old pews in the abandoned church, as well as the timber from the roof. Along with full-size gourmet appliances, the church-turned-home also boasts of a central heating system that is underground.

The dining table situated in the middle of the abandoned church also sits underneath beautiful glass-stained windows in an elegant room. The curtains are in red velvet and can be drawn to create one of the bedrooms situated in this house- which one would be able to access through a small set of stairs to the right. The hallway boasts stunning Brazilian slate- which would lead to an additional bedroom, a winter kitchen, and another bathroom. Interestingly, the most beautiful room in the house would be the bathroom.

A clawfoot bathtub sits beneath a stained glass window measuring 12 feet. Every single room features a skylight, and hand-built storage, and is large enough for a king-sized bed.
