Amber Heard Admits She Hasn’t Donated $7m Divorce Money To Charity As Promised – Latest News

When Amber Heard and Johnny Depp got divorced in 2016, the settlement saw Amber receiving $7million from Depp. Amber had pledged to give the entirety of that amount to charity, she claimed she did not care for the money. Recently, we heard Amber admit that she has yet to make the full donation

Amber and Johnny were married for a total of 15 months. In 2016, Amber filed for divorce. When the settlement case finally came to a close, three months later, Amber had agreed to a settlement of $7million. Amber had promised to donate every cent of the settlement she received. She wanted to split it between two charities. The first is the American Civil Liberties Union and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

Amber’s lawyer had asked why she would settle for such a low amount, Heard responded with: “I didn’t care about the money. I was told if I didn’t agree to a number it could be overturned, and we would never settle. I took far less than what they were offering and what I was entitled to.”

Later, she wrote in an op-ed for the Washington Post that she was “a public figure representing domestic abuse.” While this didn’t directly accuse Depp, the implication was there. This led Johnny Depp to sue Amber for defamation of character. According to him, it has affected his career. The new Pirates of the Caribbean might not have Johnny Depp as the lead role, but potentially Margot Robbie. This remains to be confirmed.

Johnny Depp is now suing Amber for defaming him, and it is during this trial that Amber admitted she has not yet donated the full amount that she initially promised. The two charity organizations have informed the court they have not yet received the full amount.

Amber Heard Explains

On Monday Amber was on trial and she gave over some evidence to support their case. This was when she admitted that she had not paid the full amount she had promised to donate. When she was asked why this was so, she replied: “Because Johnny sued me for $50million in March of 2019.” She claims that she needs the money because of the amount that Johnny Depp is suing her for.

In 2018, Amber was asked to join the Dutch talk show RTL Late Night for a show where they wanted to talk about her divorce and the settlement she had agreed to. AmberHeard stated: “$7million in total was donated – I split it between the ACLU and the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. I wanted nothing.”  Here she tells the talk show presenter that she has already made the donation, but the operating officer at the American Civil Liberties Union, Terence Dougherty, has confirmed that the organization has only received $1.3million out of the promised $3.5million they were meant to receive of her $7million divorce settlement. Amber is persistent in her reasoning that she can’t pay out the donations until Johnny Depp decides to drop the case against her.

“I fully intend to honor all of my pledges. I would love for him to stop using me so I can,” Heard said.

How Does This Affect Amber Heard?

The Daily Mail spoke with Sean Caulfield. He is a partner at the law firm, Hodge, Jones, and Allen. He has said that because Amber has not been transparent with the divorce settlement she received and her promises to donate the money, she might face a perjury probe in the UK. Sean explains that Amber had misled the court and this, ‘cuts to the core of our justice system’.

An inquiry was made over the police potentially investigating the claims, he said: “Yes, I think so. While it may not be a central issue to the case [the donations], perjury is the single biggest threat and cuts to the core of our justice system, so the police may be invited to investigate to show that any member of the public who lies to the court can be prosecuted for perjury.”
