Employee Quits Because Company Denies Their Vacation, Boss Begs Them To Come Back When Business Starts Losing Money

You as an employee work quite hard and you deserve some off days to avoid being burnt out.

The following post has now been deleted. However, an anonymous Reddit user had described the poor Christmas gift he had received from his company. There was a sudden change of plans and he was forced to cancel his vacation, which he had previously planned with his family.

The employee had sacrificed his family time and then chose to take a stance for what felt important to him. He chose to hand in his resignation. It was after his resignation that the company learned how valuable he had been to the company.

The deadlines were approaching and they had nothing to show to their clients. The angry manager chose to spam his phone with messages and calls and tried to manipulate him to return, for the sake of his “team”.

The Employee Had A Great Relation With The Company

The employee had a beautiful relationship but everything seemed to change when the rowdy manager decided to deny their pre-approved vacation request.

The employee stated, “I was brainwashed at an early age that loyalty and hard work would add countless “0’s” to your paycheck.” He had been optimistic after getting 3% raises annually while working on his holidays. He had even missed his children’s first steps and other crucial life events, just to make the CEO some more money.

He added, “Fast forward to present day…. I find myself as the cornerstone of our department. Many of our clients’ processes are automated through custom API developed by me. I have maintained a thorough documentation library on how to support the API, the reports, and all of its dependencies.

How Everything Turned On Its Head

According to the now-deleted post, ABC Company (not the real name) was being audited by the government and was found to be out of compliance. The company had then hired the employee’s company to regain their compliance or face fines.

The employee had saved all of his vacations so that he could take a week off between the New Year and Christmas. He wanted to spend it with his family to make up for all the precious time he had lost previously.

He had been notifying the manager and the project-in-charge about his time off and wanted to finish off his work before Christmas. The employee was even willing to do extra hours to make up for the holiday.

He was completely shocked when the manager called him up and informed him that his vacation was declined and he was asked to work in the holidays.

The manager added that he had even fought with HR but they wouldn’t budge.

The employee had enough and drafted his resignation letter immediately after the call. He closed up his laptop and set the mail to deliver on Monday, 8 am.

The company had 6 projects which involved extensive APIs, but those were dead by then. 7 clients had prepaid for API and automation upgrades in 2022 Q1 and the employee had no idea what would happen to those.

What Goes Around Comes Around

He added in the end, “Please remember. Family first. You never get that time back”.

After seeing the employee’s resignation early on Monday, the manager quickly tried to get in contact. As you will see by the following escalates quickly leading to come pretty absurd messages on the managers part. Here is a synopsis of the exchange, but if you want to read it in its entirety, take a look a the images below.

A Synopsis of the Heated Exchange

The messages the manager sent out were absolutely unreasonable but the employee was one step ahead of him. He replied, “Hey, I will be happy to return for $80/ hour, $5,000 immediate sign-on bonus, and 6 weeks PTO, with a 12- month guarantee.

The manager then went as low as to call his wife and even his parents and began to harass them. The whole incident took a different turn after this.

However, later things took a turn. He got a call from a new number, the client’s business manager. She informed that the CEO and manager had called her up to inform that the employee had quit and that he was “stalling the project as ransom”. The business manager then asked him about his terms and inquired about the things he required to complete the project.

She then said, “We are going to offer you a contract to finish this API for us by the end of the year for double the hourly rate you asked. If you can finish by 12/31, we will give you the signing bonus.” She also added that they would take him in if they have a vacancy, but with no guarantee.

The employee finally agreed to the terms and promised to start as soon as they provide the equipment he needs.
