Flight Attendant Warns Why You Should Never Wear Flip Flops Or Crocs On A Plane

Although there are some of us who would rather wear a pair of Crocs or flip-flops when traveling by air, a flight attendant has warned people of wearing the same. The flight attendant in question also advised people to stow away such kinds of footwear if one is wearing it on a flight due to comfort, and the reason behind stowing it away isn’t stinky feet. The attendant is Andrea Fischbach, who works for American Airlines, and recently put up a video on TikTok where she talked about the dos and don’ts of air travel. The footwear to avoid also includes high heels and backless sandals.

The reason why the flight attendant has asked people to stop wearing this is that it would be very hard to evacuate immediately in the event of a collision or any other emergency situation. And while high heels are a staple of flight attendant uniforms, Fischbach has mentioned that she really finds it quite impractical, and she often removes them to let her feet breathe.

Flight Attendant Asks People To Not Wear Crocs or Flip Flops While in Transit

The flight attendant said, “Heels can possibly cause further damage to emergency exits or hurt others if they go flying off somehow. I would really advise against high heels or flip-flops or any slides, mostly for safety purposes. If there is an evacuation and slides are required, your high heels will have to come off, as they can puncture the slide. Who knows where and in what conditions you’ll land. Plus, they aren’t very practical running gate to gate.

The flight attendant also mentioned that the crew would often remove the heels after the plane takes off. She went on to add, “As if another reason is needed, they make the metal detectors go off (if you are lucky enough to have pre-check) thanks to nails in the heels. Flip-flops and backless shoes can also end up flying off your feet, and your feet are more likely to freeze, especially during a long flight.”

You Should Be Wary Of Washrooms As Well

The flight attendant asked the viewers to also be cautious when they are visiting an airplane washroom. It would be in their best time to cover their toes up if they have been wearing Crocs or flip-flops. Andrea warned, “Be wary of wearing sandals if you are planning on going into the lavatory. That isn’t water on the floor (yes, use your imagination), and sandals invite whatever that liquid is to splash on your feet.” The stewardess provided further guidelines as to how one should dress before taking a flight. She asked people to not wear sports bras and leggings as they might be flammable in the event of an accidental fire or since the flight would get too cold.

Andrea also asked people to not wear extremely restrictive clothing as they could cause discomfort in the form of stomach swelling as well as deep vein thrombosis. Rather, one should always pack a light jacket- or just a hoodie.
