Europeans Share ‘Hard Truth’ That Americans Don’t Want to Hear

There are quite a lot of assumptions that Americans have about the rest of the world. But then, the other side of the equation is also correct. The rest of the world (Read Europeans) also have quite a few assumptions about the Americans, which might be a little close to home. So, let’s check out some of the assumptions.

15 Assumptions Europeans Have About Americans

1. Medicare

According to a Reddit user u/DevDudeZX81, “EpiPens cost $69 in the UK compared to the US $600 — and yes, the pharma companies are making a profit.”

2. Sugary Diet

u/WrestlingWoman mentioned, “Sugar does not belong in everything, especially not bread.”
The rest of the world likes a little savory taste.

3. Taxation Corruption

u/Novah13 is of the opinion, “Y’all spend too much time worrying about paying taxes and not enough time making sure your taxes go to the right programs.”

4. Ancestry

u/Peikkotytto believes, “If your great-great-great grandparents moved from Norway to the USA, started a family, and generations later you were born, you are NOT Norwegian. Your ancestors were and you have a bit of Nordic blood in you but you are still 100% American. Not Norwegian. Not 25% Irish, 10% Swedish, 3% Finnish, 17% Norwegian, 5% Danish — just plain American.”

5. Automobile Terror

u/Kenexxa points out, “Your car-dependent infrastructure is terrible. You shouldn’t be forced to own a car just to be able to go anywhere.”

6. American Education Is Really Not That Great

u/FriendshipNo1440 wrote what we were all thinking about, “Before you visit a country, educate yourself a bit about it. Like geography, culture, language(s), and laws. And yes, a bit of political knowledge is also good.”

7. STOP CORRUPTING YOUR FOOD!

u/vibinpengwin69 considers, “Foods that are usually consumed within a couple of days don’t really need all those food-preservation chemicals.”

8. There is a line between Patriotism and Fanaticism

9. The Country Is An Entire Continent On Its Own

u/oranje_meckanik brings in an interesting point that Europeans really feel in their hearts- “Different countries are really different from different states. We perfectly get the differences between this, but Americans tend to think we don’t get it and are trying to make us believe that Denmark and Portugal are the same difference as Washington and Mississippi. No, it isn’t. It’s really different. Having a different language is something that changes everything. You are suddenly unable to read anything and to communicate beyond very basic words. The law is totally different too, there is a ‘European constitution’ applying everywhere in every local law. But thinking that moving from one European country to another is like moving from one state to another is completely wrong. It applies very well inside the border of a big enough country, but not outside of borders.”

10. Minimum Wage

u/Coin-op77 wrote, “Tipping is stupid. Just pay your staff a proper living wage!”
To be honest, people could do with an elevated minimum wage.

11. Geography Is A Little More Intricate

u/SloRules wrote, “Europe is more than England and Paris.”
Americans do not have a concise grasp of Geography.

14. The USA Has No Concept Of Affordable Healthcare

u/nurseofdeath claims, “Healthcare doesn’t cost that much. It’s all HUGELY inflated.
Europe is ridiculously cheap when it comes to healthcare.

15. Accent Problem

u/Orange_fan1 writes, “An American accent is still an accent.
The Americans believe that they are the only ones who have an accent.

But, it would be wrong to claim that only Europeans have hard truths regarding Americans. In fact, one could find Europeans with their own mistakes as well.

1. Most don’t understand how big America is

When people say ‘Americans are__’ I feel like they don’t realize how huge America is. We span 6 timezones which makes it hard to be consistent in anything and it’s really impossible to lump us all into a single group.” –u/cassato

5. A Growing Population Is Necessary

Your population is getting older on average and there aren’t enough young people to keep your economies at large. There will be a long period where the quality of life will be stagnant at best.”u/SephirothFFVII
