There’s An Invisible Cabin In The Woods, And Now We Know How It Works

If you’re one for getting away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, then there’s a place you need to visit. Located just outside of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Arcanaor the Invisible Cabin is a must. It’s tiny at only 200 square feet, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in features. For you see, this cabin is pretty much invisible.

Decorated in a minimalist Scandinavian theme, it dons maple walls and stainless steel accents throughout. While in bed, you have a portal window that spans almost the entire length of the cabin, making for the most breathtaking view. There’s even a dining room table attached to save on space. Think ‘tiny home away from home.’

A tiny cabin sounds crammed right? Wrong.

You may think it’s impossible to fit all of your creature comforts into such a tiny space, but you couldn’t be more wrong. The space is used up efficiently thanks to the designer’s crafty layout and planning. From chargers in the headboard to dual lamps that can swivel to face either the bed or the dining space, you’re pretty much set. The headboard is also raised to create a sense of privacy from the ‘bedroom’ side.

There’s a deck porch with a fireplace to complete your experience, allowing you to relax outside and listen to the area’s birdlife. The metal cladding’s almost distorted design ensures a reflection that keeps birds at bay from mistakenly flying into the buildings. There’s a sink, a cooktop, and a fully fitted bathroom with a shower.

That’s not all; you’re welcomed as if you were walking into a spa

You’re welcomed by eye masks and tranquil music when entering the cabin for the first time. This in turn encourages you to close your eyes and drift off into the most peaceful zone. Let nature encapsulate you. Let’s face it – the world is a stressful place, and sometimes all you need is a little getaway that removes you from it all.

Where did it all begin?

Architect Michael Leckie of Vancouver’s Leckie Studio was originally approached by entrepreneurs Alan Gertner and Jeremy Hill to join in on a new venture. The plan was simple but complex to initiate. The idea was to help people connect better with nature in a safe and modern way. Off-the-grid living design is after all Michael’s true specialty. The result? Arcana – a group of tiny mirrored cabins that almost disappear into the wilderness.

I had originally met Alan in 2019 at the Interior Design Show in Toronto,” Leckie says. “We met at the trade show when the Backcountry Hut Company was introducing our prefabricated, flat-packed, kit-of-parts cabin system, The Great Lakes Cabin, as the featured ‘concept home.’ Alan purchased the prototype at the show, and it was then disassembled and re-assembled on his off-grid island in Georgian Bay.”

Leckie continued on his plans for the cabins

“Through that build process Alan and I came to be friends,” he continues, “and he and Jeremy approached me with the possibility of becoming a founding partner in Arcana. The fact that the three of us shared a common set of values, including a life-long love of nature, design, and innovation, made it feel like a natural fit.”

“The Arcana cabins are designed to be virtually invisible in the surrounding landscape, allowing guests to feel as close to nature as possible,” Leckie says. “The idea of bringing people closer to nature was the core idea, and as we brought on additional co-founders, we expanded the vision to returning humanity to the wild. We’re ultimately creating experiences designed to bridge urban and rural, to heighten your connection to, and awareness of, the supernatural.”

It’s time to book your very own getaway

The mirrored exterior means that the cabin reflects whatever is around it. This means that seasonal changes will affect the view as well. When it snows, the cabin will have a winter-wonderland feel to it, whereas in summer, it will be more green and leafy. Autumn will bring in oranges and yellows. It truly sounds beautiful!

There’s a standard rate for bookings and an additional rate for extras. You can, for example, book privately prepared meals and snacks for your stay, which gives you all the time you need to unwind. You can book your stay via their website here. What are you waiting for?
