One often uses intimate hygiene products or baby wipes to make them feel fresh after they have been to the washroom. But a TikTok plumber uploaded a video to remind people as to why the so-called ‘flushable wipes’ belonged in the garbage and not the toilet. The TikTok account @georgetheplumber, shared the video, which has a following of around 105,000. In the video, the plumber stands outside a residence. There they remove the top of a drain to inspect the cause of a clog in the plumbing system of the household. When the plumber removes it, one can see sewage water coming out of the pipe. Then, follows the clog’s source- a collection of wet wipes that don’t seem to be flushable at all.
Flushable Wipes are not really Flushable
The video uploaded doesn’t have any video text or commentary- but it does speak volumes with the never-ending stream of ‘flushable wipes’ seeping out of the drain. As it stands, the video currently has 3.4 million views and is serving as a reminder to the public. One individual commented, “Sewage, septic, renting or owning. You should always care. You should never put anything down the toilet. It’s not hard to throw them away.” Another individual stated, “I use wipes, but I don’t flush them under any circumstances. I’ll put them in a bin or something.”

One of the followers of this video mentioned that they used such wipes regularly- but only in their professional workspace. While another follower commented that they had learned their lesson the hard way- when they wound up with a plumbing bill worth $800. But there were other TikTokers who went on to question why companies were allowed to create flushable wipes- which were not flushable at all. One person asked, “This is the thing I don’t understand…how have flushable wipes companies not been sued like crazy?” Another individual commented, “I’m starting to think the person who invented flushable wipes is also the inventor of plumbing…”
Others commented about alternatives to wipes. One urged, “Buy a bidet!”, while another added, “Best investment ever.” So- when in doubt, always buy a bidet- rather than a flushable wipe.
