40-year-old Lolo Jones has come forward to discuss her personal life, more specifically, her romantic side. She’s competed at three Olympics as a dual sport athlete. Making an appearance in both summer and winter as a hurdler and bobsledder. Training every day to maintain her personal best, nobody can fault the athlete for commitment.

Dating is hard when your suitors all want one thing

Lolo Jones came out a while back as still being a virgin in her 40s and claims that it was the biggest mistake she could have made. Waiting for marriage, she claims that getting frank with suitors close to killed her chances of finding the one. Looking for something genuine, one can imagine there are many out there looking for something more casual, leaving her quite lonely.

A devout Christian, Lolo Jones decided to abstain before marriage

Lolo Jones decided to wait, claiming that she was saving herself for her husband one day. It is after all something special that should be shared between two people. However, this has made things difficult for her dating life. She now regrets ever saying anything publicly as she feels her chances of finding the one have dwindled.

Jones first revealed the secret on Twitter. She then appeared on HBO with Bryant Gumbel in 2012, stating: “It’s just something, a gift I want to give to my husband. But please understand, this journey has been hard. There are virgins out there, I’m gonna let them know, it’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life. Harder than training for the Olympics, harder than graduating from college, has been to stay a virgin before marriage.”

She also appeared on Kevin Hart’s Cold as Balls podcast. “That was a mistake. That killed all my dates after that — like didn’t even have a chance. Like before, at least I had a chance. Before, I’d like, to tiptoe, ‘OK, when’s a good time to tell him? Do I wait until he sees my personality a little bit? Or do I just drop the bomb?'”

It seems abstinence hasn’t only affected Lolo Jones’ love life

Abstinence has put her at more than one disadvantage, claiming that the lack of sex has affected her performance on the field as well. sportswomen benefit from the hormonal release sex offers. She explained: “I have a higher level of intensity because I don’t have any pressure release. Everybody knows me as stressed out. Having sex actually helps you as an athlete, a female athlete. It’s good for your hormones. So I’m running at a disadvantage.”

She admitted to being bored and sick of dating, feeling like she should just give up looking for that special person as it started to feel like a chore and a total disappointment. She was constantly let down by men. “Look, I’m no spring chicken. I’m not at an age where I can pretend like in my 20s ‘oh I’m not looking for anything serious’ when I was totally wanting to get married at that age,” she revealed.

“It’s hard to date. It’s always the same story, picking between two extremes. One guy is a Christian one guy is not. ⁣One guy is a workaholic the other one is unmotivated. I’m torn between personality and character. Looks or morals.” She added.

Lolo has decided to take things slow, knowing that one day, things will fall into place

Yet to find the right guy, Lolo Jones hasn’t quite given up altogether. She’s decided to freeze her eggs as a precaution so that if she meets the right partner in the distant future, she still has the option to have children of her own, something she so dearly wants. She took to Instagram about her decision. “No one should be shamed for taking their time to figure out who their life partner is. A woman shouldn’t be shamed for wanting biological kids or wanting to know what it’s like to be pregnant and carry her own child.”
