Begging is not a pleasant sight in any country. Humans, as a rule, get quite defensive when they have to ask for help from people. An overwhelming weight of social pressure, as well as a culture of shaming people who do ask for help, does create quite a sense of pride in people- but pride doesn’t feed stomachs. So, when a person does turn towards begging, they are treated as someone who is not even considered human. However, there is one man- who not only managed to turn his life completely around through begging- but also became the world’s richest beggar in the process. And trust us; he has much more money than normal, middle-class people.
The richest beggar in the world, Bharat Jain, usually wanders around the streets in Mumbai, where he begs from strangers. Usually, he manages to take around $30 home every day- which might not be much for someone living in a first-world country- but in India, that is more than enough for a single day. A normal month for him might look somewhere around $913 after begging every day. It would never look enough for an American, but Bharat has managed to turn this into an art form.
The Richest Beggar In The World Is A Millionaire!
A news outlet did create a report on him, where it was mentioned that he lives in a two-bedroom flat in Mumbai, whilst subletting a couple of shops in Thane for around Rs. 30000 every month. Needless to say, the flat and the shops were purchased with money received from begging.
The richest beggar in the world never received an education due to the deprivation that he faced growing up. The struggles he went through as a result of that have filled him in with a determination to ensure that his children receive the best education that they get. As it turns out, they receive formal education at a convent school. On his part, he spends 10 to 12 hours begging along the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus railway station, as well as the Azad Maidan sports ground. All the struggle has allowed him to purchase a two-bedroom flat- which has a worth of around 12 million rupees, or just around the range of $146,000.
With the wealth that he possesses through begging, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Bharat has been given the nickname of the richest beggar in the world. His earnings have allowed him to lead a comfortable life for himself, and his family- whilst making sure that his children receive an upbringing that he was deprived of. Now, one would probably think that with the rent and his nest egg, it is time for Bharat to literally hang his boots up. But as it happens, he is still going strong- and no signs of stopping.
