Sign at Subway in Georgia ‘Pokes Fun’ at recent Titanic Sub Implosion

A new sign posted on a Subway store in Georgia managed to land itself in a load of controversy, as it sent social media into a tizzy. The sign for this Rincon restaurant read, “Our subs don’t implode” after the recent Titanic Sub Implosion. It wouldn’t take a rocket scientist to know that this is a reference to the recent implosion of the submersible that resulted in the death of five people near the wreckage of the Titanic. According to a report, this sign was not received well by social media users- who claimed it was in poor taste.

Later, a statement from Subway to Fox News Digital was made viral, which stated, “We have been in contact with the franchise about this matter and made it clear that this kind of comment has no place in our business. The sign has since been removed.” For those who have not been in touch with the news for quite some time now, this sign refers to the OceanGate Titan sub which was heading towards the wreckage of the Titanic when it apparently lost complete contact with the mothership just two hours into its trip to the ocean floor.

Titanic Sub Implosion Joke Received In Poor Taste

All the five people involved in the Titanic Sub Implosion- Stockton Rush, the CEO of OceanGate, Haming Harding- the billionaire, Paul-Henri Nargeolet, the Titanic expert, businessman Shahzada Dawood, and Suleman- his 19-year-old son, all died on the 18th June when their sub suffered a catastrophic implosion. This was stated by the officials after they analyzed the debris which was found on 22nd June.

Needless to say, the Titanic Sub Implosion is pretty fresh in our minds- with certain social media users commenting on the insensitivity of it all. One user commented, “This is at your store in Rincon, GA. Not only is it distasteful, it’s just sad. Do better.” Another individual commented, “This is what we are doing now? Making fun of people who lost their lives.” While a third individual commented, “In Rincon, GA; I would love to hear what @Subway says about this…IMO, it’s a horrible taste for a chain that is trying to reinvent themselves.
