No matter what you think of tattoos, they are a hassle to get and a hassle to remove. They may not be truly permanent, but they are as close as it gets to it. So, it is usually recommended to give considerable thought to whatever you are getting tattooed. As such, when you decide to get an Arabic tattoo, while on a trip, because some strangers told you to do so, it can go pretty hilariously wrong. Caitlin Delphine, a tourist, recently took to TikTok to share her new tattoo that matched with some strangers she had met during her trip to Morocco. Viewers, however, could not help but laugh.
Delphine’s Hilarious Arabic Tattoo
Delphine hails from Sweden and usually travels alone. She is a pretty experienced one too as, so far, she has been to 33 countries. In those countries, she usually finds hostels to lodge at and builds beautiful friendships with the locals. Recently, she decided to go to Morocco and also decided to get a permanent mark for her trip. She decided to get an Arabic tattoo on her arm. Two more tourists accompanied Delphine. One of them got a tattoo on their ankle, while the other matched with Delphine’s and got in on their arm.
Delphine posted her experience with the idea of recommending how amazing and hospitable lodging at hostels can be. In the post’s caption, she explained that she had met the other two only ten days ago while residing at the hostel. So she recommended the style of lodging for anyone who hasn’t so far. The clip has racked up over a million views, and most are not out of admiration for the beauty of the Arabic tattoo. Delphine, via Google Translate, shows her viewers that the tattoo translated to Mayonnaise.

No, it does not mean anything other than the condiment you know of. TikTokers who knew Arabic said that the tattoo read Mayonnaise phonetically as well. Most surprisingly, this was completely intentional by Delphine and her friends! According to Caitlin, they were eating lunch and reveling in the beauty of the Arabic language, particularly its written form. Then, they had coincidentally picked up a packet of Mayonnaise and went: “Even mayonnaise is really beautiful written in Arabic.” So they regarded it as an inside joke, and memorialized it via their tattoos!
The Internet’s Reaction
Delphine also knows that it spelled the word phonetically, but she was not aware of any proper direct translation of the word. Of course, her viewers, although not critical, were definitely amused by the act. One viewer who is knowledgeable about the language wrote: “I speak Urdu but can read Arabic (because muslim girl things) and I’m cackling.” Another gave a very practical use: “You’ll never forget it at the store again. Personal permanent shopping list.”
A third user gave the most philosophical and wholesome outlook: “I think this one is kinds based. Just getting a stupid random tattoo with a stranger you met in a hostel is actually the perfect use of tattoos. Arabic Mayonnaise will always be an amazing memory whenever you look at it.
