This underwater restaurant is out of this world

And for good reason! Under, a restaurant in Norway is submerged five and a half meters into the ocean. Allowing you to have a spectacular dinner…with a rather usual view. In Norway, the word under actually has two meanings: below and wonder. And thus, a very fitting name for this beautiful destination underwater restaurant. Under has a seating capacity for up to 100 guests at a time, and was carefully designed by Snøhetta to ensure a once-in-a-lifetime dining experience like no other.[1][2]

Half-sunken into the icy waters of Lindesnes, Under invites you to dine five meters below the surface. The panoramic view of the seabed offers a visual gateway to the sea and connects the guests to the wildlife outside. This provides you with an opportunity to take in the otherwise rarely seen marine ecosystem of the North Atlantic Ocean.

The Design

Looking at the Snøhetta website, it’s easy to see why they were chosen to create this masterpiece restaurant. ll their projects are breathtaking. According to them, all their architecture are examples of attitudes rather than designs. They include the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet, Shenzhen Opera House, Tverrfjellhytta, Norwegian Wild Reindeer Pavilion, and of course, the underwater restaurant, Under.[2]

Our projects are examples of attitudes rather than designs. They are samples in a series of contextual examinations rather than isolated masterpieces. Our designs are associative rather than symbolic. They are comments rather than statements. Every story told is a shared experience of contemporary conditions set within a given frame.

The Food

Of course, the food is just as important as the setting. At under, they only use the freshest ingredients for their food. Creativity and delicate presentation help ensure the most unique dining experience yet.[3]

Fresh ingredients and pure, naked flavors are of the utmost importance to us. At the same time, we want to provide a unique dining experience that ushers our guests beyond their comfort zone. Just on the other side of our iconic window, the ocean is bursting with fresh delicacies from the sea, so the journey from the kitchen to the plate is minimal.

Furthermore, the area where the underwater restaurant is situated provides much of what is available on the seasonal menu. From land to ocean, Under is never short of the best ingredients.

We are so fortunate! Not only is the sea filled with a vast amount of delicious fish and countless types of shells, but the beaches here also offer plenty of exciting ingredients such as sea arrow grass, sea rocket and salty sea kale. Furthermore, the local area is known for its bountiful varieties of wild mushrooms and succulent berries.
