Woman called ‘rude and inconsiderate’ for using plastic sheet to cover her plane seat

Everyone is entitled to make sure they feel protected on any kind of public transport. A plane seat is no exception. However, what if that “protection” becomes an inconvenience for other passengers? Recently, Reddit held a heated debate over such a scenario.

In r/mildlyinfuriating, u/grimisical posted a picture of a woman, seated in front of his wife, using a plastic sheet to cover her plane seat. However, the cover was too big, and ended up concealing his wife’s TV screen. Here, take a look at the scenario:

As a matter of fact, the post does not go into any more detail. For example, it does not mention if the woman knew the inconvenience she was causing by covering her plane seat in such a fashion. Neither is there any mention of whether the cover actually was for hygienic purposes?

Reddit’s Opinion On The Covered Plane Seat

Regardless of the lack of details, a lot of Reddit users were extremely infuriated by the situation. The very top comment, from u/thecaninfrance, gives a humorous solution to the OP’s frustrations: “Flip it back over the lady’s head.” This is in line with the conclusion that many, like u/Important_Pack8713, were quick to arrive at: “People are so incredibly inconsiderate.

u/throwaway37865 added a more logical theory as to the nature of the woman who did this with her plane seat: “The people who usually do things like this or find themselves in these situations don’t exactly think about others/aren’t very considerate. She probably didn’t realize it didn’t go all the way down but she clearly didn’t bother to check.

However, there were a few who were more infuriated by why OP simply did not tell the person about the covered plane seat. After all, perhaps the woman really did not know about the inconvenience she was causing. In this line, u/TTBoy44 said: “I don’t get it. Do people just sit there in impotent rage and post to Reddit at first opportunity? Or do they actually do something about it? In this case a finger flick would do the trick. It’s a real puzzler.

Meanwhile, a former flight attendant, u/iseedogseverywhere, listed out the steps on how anyone should approach this situation: “Step 1: politely inform the passenger that their chair cover is covering up your tv screen and ask them to adjust it. If that does not work or they get an attitude, Step 2: ring the call button and politely explain the situation to a flight attendant who will then handle it. You’ll have your screen available either after step 1 or step 2. Source…..I am a flight attendant

At the end of the day, most agreed that OP should deal with the situation calmly. At least, try to. But what do you think of this plane seat situation? Do you have a similar experience? Let us know in the comments below!
