A Dyson Sphere Could Bring Humans Back From the Dead, Researchers Say

Immortality is something that humans have wondered about since the beginning of time. Is it possible, and of course, the debate over whether or not it would actually be a good thing. Russian life extensionist Alexey Turchin has been searching for the secret to immortality for years. He believes the key might be the Dyson Sphere. (1)

What Is A Dyson Sphere?

A Dyson Sphere is a megastructure first explored by astronomer Freeman J. Dyson. It is a shell or rings of solar collectors around a star that collects the star’s energy, a sort-of biosphere, if you will. The original interest in whether or not these existed was to meet energy demands here on Earth or perhaps provide a capacity for extraterrestrial life. (2)

Some people believe that we may actually be able to build Dyson spheres ourselves, however, it is highly debated. (2)

According to Turchin, however, these spheres may serve another purpose: Immortality. (1)

How Dyson Spheres May Be The Key to Immortality

Turchin’s desire to unlock the secret to immortality began when a school friend died when he was young. (1) He has been working on his “roadmap to immortality” nearly his entire life, and his latest version points to the Dyson sphere as being a key component. (3)

Turchin says that artificial intelligence (AI) is essential for continuing to live after you “die.” The idea would be to upload people’s consciousness to the cloud and then run them in a simulated universe. (1)

The issue is that this would require a lot of energy. Currently, we don’t have enough power supply on Earth to continuously run a program like that. This is where the Dyson Spheres come in. (1)

If they exist, or if we can build them, and if we can figure out how to use them to harness the energy from the stars, then this could all be possible. Remember, stars give off the same solar energy that the sun does – the sun, itself, is just the star that our planet happens to revolve around. (1)

Will This Happen In Our Lifetime?

Most “experts” in this area say likely not. However, as AI continues to develop and evolve, it could be what we need actually to build a Dyson Sphere of our own. (1)

What do you think? Can we actually achieve immortality using artificial intelligence?
