Sailors Come Across ‘Ghost Ship’ Near The Bermuda Triangle

Bermuda Triangle has been a well-known host for countless mysteries and conspiracy theories and has also served as a subject for research. Planes have been known to mysteriously disappear here, and no one has ever put out a clear, concise, and detailed geography of the area. In 2013, a pair of sailors working with the Ocean Research Project added another mystery: a ghost ship. These sailors were exploring the Atlantic Ocean when they encountered a ship near the Triangle.

When they got close- they realized the ship was empty. Well, where is Captain Jack Sparrow when you need him? The sailors realized that the ship’s sail wasn’t up, nor was the motor running, and started getting worried as “there was no sign of anyone.”

After this, the sailors thought that there could be someone on the ship who needed medical attention, so the pair clamored aboard to look around the giant ghost ship. One of the sailors, Matt Rutherford, decided to film everything as he started exploring this boat, confirming, “This is one awfully abandoned sailboat. Wolfhound from the Irish Yacht Club. I have no idea what’s inside, I’m going to go and search around and I hope I don’t find any dead bodies or anything crazy like that.

A Pair of Sailors Find Abandoned Vessel In The Bermuda Triangle

Rutherford also admitted that he was quite scared of opening any doors or cabinets- as there was no saying what could come out. Nevertheless, both the sailors scoured the boat completely and stated, “No dead bodies, thank God. This is absolutely crazy by the way. 800 miles from Bermuda, 1,500 miles from the US, standing on a very nice Swan 48, in the middle of the ocean.

Fortunately, Matt was able to get in touch with the owner of the boat- who promised a cash reward if he could tow the boat all the way back to Bermuda from the Bermuda Triangle. The pair did manage to haul the abandoned boat close to 50 miles by the end of the second day. Matt said, “It’s kinda funny, 48ft boat with a 42ft boat. We’re doing our best trying to get her to Bermuda.”

After spending 47 days at sea, the sailors’ boat started running low on fuel so they had to flag a passing freight ship- and convinced them to offload some gas their way. Unfortunately, the abandoned vessel had to be cut from the tow line- after the rudder was wrapped around it. Ever since the video was shared, several online investigators came to the conclusion that this abandoned vessel in the Bermuda Triangle belonged to Alan McGettigan- who was a skipper from the Royal Irish Yacht Club. He was traveling with his crewmates, Morgan Crowe, Declan Hayes, and Tom Mulligan, who were then rescued by a Greek cargo ship just 64 miles north of Bermuda.
