Jack the Ripper’s face unveiled after police make chilling discovery

Have you heard of Jack the Ripper? He was an infamous serial killer in London in 1888 with a serious vendetta against women. The creepiest thing is that after his last murder, he was never seen or heard from ever again – no one ever found out who he was. Recently, however, some British police have made a discovery that shows what the man – or woman – might have looked like.

Discovery Shows What Jack The Ripper Might Have Looked Like

In 1888, a notorious killer who became known as Jack the Ripper terrorized London. He not only killed five women, but he dismembered them. After he committed these murders, he disappeared. Not much is known about him or her, other than authorities decided that he likely had a surgical background due to the way that they mutilated his victims. Recently, however, they discovered an artifact that gives clues as to what he or she might have looked like: A walking cane with a facial composite of Jack the Ripper carved into the handle. (1)

This walking stick isn’t just a random stick, but the stick that the killer actually used themselves. It was stored at the Bramshill Police College in Hampshire, the UK, for many years. Some thought that the cane was lost, however, when the school closed in 2015. When staff at the College of Policing headquarters in Ryton, West Midlands, however, were searching through some old archived items, they uncovered the cane.

“Finding this cane was an exciting moment for us,” said the college’s content creator Antony Cash. “Jack the Ripper is one of the biggest and most infamous murder cases in our history and his crimes were significant in paving the way for modern policing and forensics as it caused police to begin experimenting with and developing new techniques as they attempted to try and solve these murders, such as crime scene preservation, profiling and photography.”

Who Was Jack The Ripper?

Jack the Ripper was a notorious serial killer in London in 1888. The name Jack the Ripper wasn’t actually their name, but was how this person signed off taunting notes that they sent to the police. They killed each of their five victims by slitting their throats and then mutilating their bodies in such a way that suggests that the murderer had surgical and human anatomy knowledge. Each of the women at least occasionally worked as a prostitute, though only one was confirmed as it being her full-time profession.

There was also no way to determine whether Jack the Ripper murdered them while soliciting their services or not, though it was thought to be due to a strong belief against women soliciting sex for money. (2) Despite many often elaborate attempts to trap the killer, the police were never able to catch or identify them. This outraged the citizens of London, who naturally, were quite afraid. As Mr. Cash said, however, this situation truly started police on the path towards modern forensics. Had Jack the Ripper been active today, it would be much more likely that investigators would be able to identify and catch them.

Potential Suspects

That being said, there were some speculations of who Jack the Ripper might have been. One of these was teacher and barrister Montague Druitt. He had an interest in surgery and was also said to be insane. Having disappeared after the murders and found dead later, he was high on the suspect list.

Another was Russian criminal and physician Michael Ostrog. Authorities had put him in an asylum because of his “homicidal tendencies”. A third suspect was Whitechapel resident Aaron Kosminski, who lived where the murders took place. His hatred of women and especially prostitutes was well known and authorities placed him in an asylum several months after the murders took place. (3)

This cane that potentially depicts what this person may have looked like is certainly an interesting artifact. It is now on display in the police college as a reminder to current and future students of how far policing and forensics has come since then. It is likely that we will never know for sure who Jack the Ripper was or what they looked like. At the very least, we can rest assured that this person has long since been in the grave.
