Inside Kevin Costner’s 160-Acre Ranch with Its Own Sledding Hill, 2 Lakes & ‘Field of Dreams’

American actor Kevin Costner, known for his roles in the films The Postman, Dances With Wolves, Robinhood, Prince of Thieves, and most recently in the TV series Yellowstone, is now making headlines for something else: His 160-acre ranch in Aspen, Colorado. The ranch is a stunning oasis fit for the nature lover who also loves luxury. If you’re thinking “wow, I’d love to spend time there”, you’re in luck. The ranch is available to rent for special occasions.

Kevin Costner’s 160-Acre Aspen Ranch

In just a 10-minute drive from downtown Aspen, Colorado, you can find a stunning, 160-acre ranch. This gorgeous oasis is owned by none other than famous Hollywood actor Kevin Costner. Here, he lives with his wife Christine Baumgartner and their three young children. This spot, however, has room for many, many more. With three different homes on the property – the main house, the lake house, and the river house – Dunbar Ranch (named after his character in Dances With Wolves) can accommodate up to 34 people at a time. An Activity Lover’s Paradise

Whether you’re there in the winter or the summer months, you’ll always have plenty to do. When snow covers the ground, you can go skating on the private ice rink or tubing on the tubing track. There are plenty of opportunities for ice fishing, dog sledding, snowshoeing, and cross country skiing. On top of that, you are right close to the world-class skiing that Colorado is famous for.

In the warmer months, you can spend your days horseback riding, fishing, hiking, and swimming. There is also a space for archery lessons and a baseball field. Finally, you can go kayaking or paddleboarding on the actor’s private lake. (2)

The Main House

Each of the houses oozes comfort with a classic, old-fashioned ranch or chalet vibe. They are gorgeous and bright and also cozy and warm. The main house has six bedrooms, six full bathrooms, and two half-bathrooms. It has a chef-style kitchen and various living rooms, dining rooms, entertainment rooms, and of course beautiful outdoor spaces.

The master bedroom itself is a work of art. The large bed is the centerpiece, with an extra, sunny sitting room out front. The real gem, however, is the trap door that sits underneath the rug at the end of the bed. Lift the hatch and you will find a wooden staircase that leads to a private hot tub overlooking the river and mountains. With just the press of a button, a mini waterfall pours out into the tub, completing the experience.

The Lakehouse

As you can garner from the name, The Lakehouse sits alongside the ranch’s man-made private lake. It is suitable for 12 people to stay there, naturally it is especially well-suited for people who enjoy water-based activities. There are actually two lakes on the property and both have plenty of trout for those who are inclined to go fishing, either summer or winter.

The River House

The River House is reportedly Costner’s favorite property on the estate. It sits along the banks of the Roaring Forks River and can accommodate up to six people. With a gorgeous view of the mountains, the River House includes the tubing/sledding hill that also has music and lights for nighttime fun. The “Field of Dreams” baseball field is also located here.

For Rent

Of course, Costner and family aren’t there all the time. Currently, he spends much of the year filming the TV series Yellowstone in Montana. For this reason, he rents out the space when he and his family and friends aren’t using it.

As I am sure you can imagine, however, this beautiful piece of Aspen paradise doesn’t come with a tiny price tag. If you were simply to host an event on the property, you’re looking at around at least $1000 per head. To rent the entire place out, which comes with a minimum of a one-week stay, you’re looking at $250,000. If you break that down, it’s $36,000 per night. Naturally, it is more rented for big corporate retreats than personal use with a price like that.

This price may seem kind of crazy, still, but for corporations booking accommodations for retreats or conferences, it’s not out-of-the-norm. It is comparable to booking out a block of rooms at Aspen’s five-star hotel The Little Nell.
