KFC Fans Go Wild Over All-You-Can-Eat Buffet

Several fans of the fast food chain KFC recently went hysterical over a viral photo of one branch where they were serving an all-you-can-eat buffet. The post has now turned into something similar to a social media phenomenon- with multitudes of fans calling for the return of the buffets- which were seemingly popular in such joints back in the late 1990s and early 2000s. One fan even went on to kickstart the entire process, when she shared a photo of an all-you-can-eat KFC buffet in WA. She posted, “KFC. Bring back the all-you-can-eat buffet.” The photo was posted to the Old Shops Australia Facebook page, which is currently dedicated to “Aussie consumer nostalgia and retro retail memories.”

Needless to say, hundreds of KFC buffet fans reacted to this post, calling for the return of the buffet. One individual wrote, “I’d smash a KFC buffet. We need it back badly.” Another individual wrote, “Damn I miss these.” Some individuals talked about how they had never seen such a thing, with one individual believing that this felt ‘ripped off’. “Wow, never knew that was even a thing. I’m not surprised that would have failed. So many people would ‘eat the place out’.

Fans Drool Over Old KFC Buffet

Some others shared their experiences and memories when they had eaten at such a buffet back in the day. “Ahh KFC All-You-Can-Eat at Bondi Junction. $8.95- where I chose to eat ONLY the skin off 6 pieces, downed it down with unlimited gravy and then proudly threw up!” Another wrote, “One of the most proudest moments of my 20s!” A third user went on to comment, “1995/96 Jamisontown, NSW. 8.95- I put on 14 kg in my second year of uni.

Back in January, another member of this Facebook group put up an image of an old school all-you-can-eat-buffet- this time being sponsored by Pizza Hut. As it stands, there are still quite a few of these buffets scattered around Australia. The original poster shared an image of the buffet stand which was situated in the middle of the restaurant in Windsor, NSW, which was still decked out in the 90s decor that it was famous for. He said that he had visited this buffet quite recently, and the food was pretty good. Was it like the KFC buffet? We may never know.

In the words of the original poster, “Some nice deep-pan pizza with actual cooked bases. So many of my recent takeaway deep-pan pizza bases have been doughy. Overall a pleasurable experience, but with an approx. I hour travel time in each direct, not one I will be repeating in a hurry. Oh I wish they’d bring these eateries back in service. They were real social spots.
