TikToker Amelia Goldsmith, a London resident, had hoped to bring joy to someone’s day by covering the cost of their groceries at a nearby Sainsbury’s store. Unfortunately, her good intentions went awry, and this act of kindness ended up leaving her in tears. Despite having reservations beforehand, Goldsmith proceeded with her plan in the hopes of bringing some joy into someone’s day.
“I’m nervous. I just hope they don’t look at me thinking I’m some weirdo.” Said the TikToker. Unfortunately, the planned giveaway did not go as anticipated. In the video, which has been viewed over 700,000 times, Goldsmith can be seen encountering difficulties in finding someone willing to accept her offer. In one instance, she approaches a customer at the checkout and offers to cover the cost of their groceries.

“No, no, no. I really don’t need it.” Replied the shopper to the TikToker
The TikToker initially approached a man who was placing his items on the checkout conveyor and informed him that she wanted to cover the cost of his entire purchase. However, the man, whom she described as being “angry,” quickly declined the offer and asked, “Why?” once she explained her intentions.
A subsequent try ended in disappointment when a woman told Goldsmith, “There are many more deserving people, but thank you.” The repeated rejections ultimately took a toll on Goldsmith, causing her to break down and cry. “That was really stressful.” Said Goldman.
“I was expecting the first person to be like, overjoyed and grateful and happy for me to pay for their shopping, but obviously that didn’t go down well.” She continued. After facing multiple rejections, TikToker Goldsmith decided to give back in a different way. She donated pasta and sauces to the food bank bin at the store.
“Weird turnout, but I’m still really happy that the food can go to those who really need it. I’m just really overwhelmed right now, I don’t know what’s going on.” She sobbed. Viewers were quick to notice that Goldsmith had visited a Sainsbury’s store in Balham, a relatively affluent area of London. Could this have been the TikToker’s mistake?

Some speculated that those who declined her offer may have been uncomfortable with being filmed.”A lovely gesture, but remember you don’t need to film a good deed to be valid.” Wrote one viewer. “Maybe coz you were filming it idk, if someone offered to do something for me but has their phone in their hand, idk.” Commented another.
“It probably didn’t work because of the type of clientele that particular area has. People in my area would be extremely grateful for this,” another user explained in the comments. “It’s the filming !!! You all got to stop it! Go help a homeless shelter,” another TikToker wrote.
In support of her efforts, another wrote: “You should be so proud of your pure intentions, no one can take away your intentions from you and you should be so proud of yourself for this.” Another wrote: “You can buy my food shop any day.” And a fan commented too. “I think in the future maybe give the people at the tills the money to anonymously cover the next person’s bill?? I think people feel awkward/ get weird.”
