TikTokers Swap Walmart Price Tags on Steaks for Lower Prices, Sparking Debate

A story about a viral TikTok video from 2022 has recently resurfaced online, and it has people talking. It showed an influencer peeling off the price tag from a steak at Walmart that he had purchased. Later, he showed that the label underneath it was of a more expensive cut of meat. Needless to say, this unethical act led to a massive debate among users regarding stealing. This viral clip was posted by Sean Rassavong (@sean.rssvng). It showed him ripping off the price label for $12.30 from a steak package. Its original price was $24.38. The video then implied that the creator has purposely switched all of the labels in order to score this meat at a far lower price. The TikToker later wrote in a comment that the steak was purchased from Walmart- and this wasn’t even the costliest swap.

The text that overlaid this clip read, “Gotta compensate for them gas prices ya heard.” It is quite well-documented that gas prices have reached record highs in the United States. If you were amazed at this one, wait till we get to the featured story! In another viral video, a TikToker who goes by the username @southcentraljag depicted a man with some intrusive thoughts regarding price tags, which he allowed to win. It hasn’t yet been identified who this person is, or what store he has been replacing the price tags at. All that one understands is that things must be going really well for him to be able to replace so many of the tags without law enforcement behind him.

TikTokers Replace Price Tags On Walmart Steak In Order To Save Money

One might not blame these kleptomaniacs, though; steaks aren’t cheap, after all. This is evidenced by the $7.84 price tag on a bottom-round package that weighs 0.94 lbs. But as it turns out, this particular gentleman was looking for a steak that was much better than what the average Joe would consume. Therefore, he took the executive decision to remove the steak label worth $7. Then, applied it to yet another piece of meat that would cost the consumer a pretty sum of $41.

Now, while ribeye steaks are generally expensive, $41 is still a massive sum of money for this form of food. According to the CEO of Minnesota Beef Council, Kelly Schmidt, “The farmers were seeing record high cattle prices as well because the processors in the middle that need the beef to get to the restaurants and stores, they’re really having a fight for that product.” Soon, the comments on TikTok came flooding in, with people trying to determine the legality behind the man’s actions. One individual commented, “My ex went to jail for a year for that.” While another added, “I think that’s called shoplifting! Haha.

A third commenter had a different thought in their head regarding the price tags. They mentioned, “As someone who’s worked in a grocery store before, I am amazed you got the sticker off so easy.” Most of the comments were about the illegal element of this action. However, others seemed to be more supportive- devising ways themselves to replicate this. Needless to say, for some, the actions of the TikTokers were stealing. But for others, this was all about saving money in an inventive way. Either way, it did show people who were looking for unique ways to maintain and secure their finances. After all, at present, this world is one where every single cent matters.
