Vandals Are Stuffing Meat Into Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

For many people, electric cars that produce less or zero emissions are an exciting step towards a more sustainable planet. Not everyone is as sold on the idea, unfortunately. In the latest news of the anti-electric vehicle groups, vandals are stuffing meat into electric vehicle charging stations in Germany. Naturally, this is causing thousands of dollars worth of damage to these machines. (1)

Anti-Electric Car Vandals Stuffing Meat Into Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

Tesla and Tesla owners are already used to some resistance towards the shift towards electric vehicles (EV). Anti-EV people in the past have cut wires, damaged charging stations, and even parked their own vehicles EV-only parking spots to prevent them from charging their cars. The latest aggression to come out of the anti-EV movement, however, is in Germany. Recently vandals stuffed ground meat into electric vehicle charging stations in Munich. (1)

The vandals stuffed raw ground meat into the station’s connectors, which also damaged the plug contacts. Naturally, the chargers were completely unusable, and the connectors and contacts all had to be replaced. Authorities have not caught the vandal and therefore don’t know if this was a prank or an actual statement against electric vehicles. This is not the first time in Germany and other parts of the world where people have vandalized electrical vehicle charging stations. (1)

Other Instances Of EV-Charging Station Vandalism and Aggression

In 2019, a 52-year-old man damaged the charging cable and ports of every charging dock at an electric vehicle charging station in St. George, Utah. Local news reports that the man was quite drunk and grieving the loss of a family member who had recently passed away. Though he confessed to the crime, whether or not it was a targeted, anti-EV act of vandalism remains unclear. (2)

In 2018, several pick-up truck owners used their massive vehicles to block electric vehicle charging stations in Hickory, North Carolina. This act has actually become so common that people have named it ICEing. ICE is an acronym for Internal Combustion Engine, referring to traditional gasoline-requiring cars and trucks. (3)

“I’ve never had a supercharging experience like this one. These trucks blocked all the chargers, chanted “F” Tesla, and were kicked out by a Sheetz employee.” a Tesla owner who witnessed the event when unable to charge their vehicle wrote. (3)

Another frequent but dangerous act against Teslas and electric vehicles were seen in North Carolina is what is called coal-rolling. This is when truck drivers intentionally spew black, soot-filled exhaust fumes on drivers while on the road. Not only is this rude, but it is potentially highly dangerous as it reduces the visibility of the EV driver. On top of that, the truck driver is also preoccupied committing the act rather than paying attention to the road. (3)

Tesla Strikes Back

Tesla is doing its best to help its drivers get the charge they need and prevent anti-EV drivers from getting in the way. The cars themselves have “Centurian mode,” which captures any out-right, targeted vandalism on camera. They also have installed blockades that only Tesla owners can open to prevent ICE vehicles from parking in or blocking charging stations. (4)

Of course, Tesla and other companies can’t completely control or prevent violence and aggression towards its charging stations and vehicles. Unfortunately for anti-EV ‘activists’, electrical vehicles are here to stay, no matter how much meat they try and shove in unsuspecting charging ports.
