Remember Jeffrey Epstein – the infamous multi-millionaire who solicited sex from minors and died in prison a couple of years ago after the story became worldwide news? Well naturally before the world knew how horrible the man was, he had many relations, meetings, and business agreements with other men of his financial caliber. One of these men was none other than Microsoft billionaire-philanthropist Bill Gates. Early this month, a reporter questioned him on his relationship with Epstein. Gates’ response was, well, extremely awkward. (1)
Bill Gates’ Awkward Response About Jeffrey Epstein
Earlier this month, Judy Woodruff interviewed Bill Gates on PBS. During the interview, Woodruff questioned Gates on his relations with Jeffrey Epstein. Epstein is famously known as the billionaire pedophile sex offender. Authorities convicted him in 2019, however, days before his trial in August of that year he killed himself in his Manhattan jail cell.
When asked about the numerous meetings he had with the defamed billionaire, Gates seemed to stumble through his answer. He then ended that portion of the interview with a very awkward response stating that he is dead so… yeah.
First, Gates began by saying that yes, he did have some dinners with Epstein. A well-known financier at the time, Epstein told Gates that he could help him with an area of his philanthropy that he was hoping to expand. He also reminded the viewers that these meetings date back quite a long time ago.
“You know, I had dinners with him… I regret doing that,” Gates began.“He had relationships with people he said would give to global health, which is an interest I have. Not nearly enough philanthropy goes in that direction. Those meetings were a mistake. They didn’t result in what he purported. And I cut them off. That goes back a long time ago now. There’s — so there’s nothing new on that.”

What The News Reports Say
The New York Times reported in 2019 that not only had Gates met with Jeffrey Epstein “many” times but that the relationship began after Epstein was already convicted of sex crimes. Gates then told the Wall Street Journal that he had no friendship or business relationship with the criminal. Still, there were more reports that said one of his ex-wife Melinda’s concerns were Gates’ dealings with Epstein. (2)
After Gates Knew About Epstein’s Background
Woodruff then asked Gates how he felt about Epstein’s background after having had several meetings with him. She said that reports say Gates met with Epstein numerous times over the span of several years. To that remark, Gates made a face and made it clear that this was not an entirely accurate statement.
Still, the normally very well-spoken man struggled to put together a clear response to the question. Rather, Gates continued to reiterate what he had already said earlier in the interview. He stated his regrets over them and reminded everyone that nothing there had changed.
“Well, I have said I regretted having those dinners. And there’s nothing, absolutely nothing new on that.” he said.
The Most Awkward Part of The Interview
If this section of the interview wasn’t awkward enough, it gets worse. Woodruff continued to ask Gates some pretty tough, direct questions, and his responses didn’t get any better. To close out this part of the interview, Woodruff asked Gates if he found a lesson in this experience. Perhaps something that not only he had already taken or was going to take into his future. A lesson that others could also learn from.
“Well, he’s dead. So, in general, you always have to be careful.”Gates said, obviously extremely uncomfortable.
He then recovered himself enough to draw the interview back to something more positive: The work he has done with his foundation.
“I’m very proud of what we have done in philanthropy, very proud of the work of the foundation. That’s what I get up every day and focus on,” he said.
