Animal Rights Advocate Says Eating Hamburgers Is Sexist

Did you know that eating meat is misogynistic? It is also apparently racist, homophobic, and just in general against anything that isn’t the white, English-speaking male. Or at least, according to this animal rights activist it is. This is what activist Carol Adams spoke about at the Oxford Union ‘Beyond Meat’ debate earlier this week. Her speech has gone viral as people criticize her for using “every woke buzzword” in the book.

Eating Meat Is Sexist According To Carol Adams

Carol Adams is an author and animal rights activist. One of her more well-known books is titled “The Sexual Politics of Meat”. She gave a speech this past Wednesday at the 2022 Oxford Union debate on eating meat. In her discourse, she likened eating meat to a “white supremacists patriarchal world view”. According to her, the white male supremacist has “weaponized” meat and animal products to “reclaim their wounded masculinity”. (1)

Carol Adams speaking at the Beyond Meat debate

First, she referred to eating animals as eating their corpses. She stated that we cover this up by using different language to refer to their various body parts rather than giving them ownership of their bodies. For example “a leg of lamb” versus “a baby lamb’s leg”. She said they have to completely “disappear as living beings”. Adams says using words such as “hamburger”, “steak”, and “bacon” mask us from the fact that we are eating what was once a living creature.

“In order to be eaten, animals must disappear as living beings, that is be killed,” she said. “They then disappear conceptually as so many forms in which we eat animal corpses are massaged by euphemistic language (like) hamburgers, steak, pork, bacon

“Eating Meat Makes Men Heroes”

She continued to use examples such as the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Centers and Barack Obama as president as to how men are reclaiming their masculinity by consuming animal products. If you’re confused, you are not alone.

“White supremacists weaponised eating meat, eggs and dairy, images of milk drinking white men, of platters groaning with meat and the baiting of liberal men as so-called soy boys are all part of the neo-Nazi messaging.” she said.

Adams went on to say that eating meat is harmful to women, indigenous populations, and all other minorities. Basically, she was saying that if you eat meat, you are supporting white supremacy.

The Internet Is Incredulous

Naturally, people had a lot to say about her speech. First of all, you can tell by the faces of the people in the audience that they already found her argument at best confusing and at worst laughable. They, of course, had to be polite. People on the internet though? They have been tearing her speech right up and throwing it out the window. (2)

Most people chalked her speech up to “incoherent gibberish”. If you listened to (or, like me, tried to listen to) her speech, then you will probably agree. It was certainly hard to follow. Much of this was because of the language that she used. As many on Reddit, Twitter, YouTube, and every social media platform in between have said: She jammed every “woke buzzword” in existence into her speech. Most of it, truthfully, made no sense.

“This entire argument about meat from Carol Adams is a grab bag of woke logic threads and terms that have no overarching connection to eat other or to meat.” one person wrote.

“You’re a white supremacist if you eat meat is easily the craziest take I’ve ever heard.” wrote another.

Maybe she had some good points hidden in there, maybe not. Unfortunately for her, it was well-buried in crazy concepts buzzwords that made it hard to follow and also hard to debate. I’m not sure who had to follow up her speech, but I’m sure that they felt a bit at a loss for words, at least at first. The commenters are correct: Hers are definitely some of the more out-their opinions you will hear on the internet today.
